About Bulkhead Energy

Bulkhead Energy is a growing energy drink brand focused on delivering high-performance beverages for active lifestyles. The range is built on flavour rather than formula alone — citrus, orange, pineapple, watermelon, strawberry, lemonade and the Pink Mist line — and the brand sells online, so a shopper’s first contact with it is usually a search result rather than a shelf.
That makes organic search the storefront. Traffic reaches the site from the United States, Europe and Asia, and the majority of sessions come from desktop — an audience that reads, compares and then orders, rather than buying on impulse at a checkout counter.

The brief

6 problems between Bulkhead Energy and page one

Energy drink search is decided by flavour and format terms with real purchase intent behind them, and those terms were already held by larger brands and by retailers. Six specific problems stood in the way.
Traffic

199 organic visits a month, and flat

The website had stagnant traffic with little to no consistent growth. Nothing about the trend line suggested the site would climb on its own — it was holding a position, not building one.

Visibility

Priority keywords stuck beyond page three

High-priority keywords were ranking past page 3 in Google. The terms most likely to end in an order were the terms the site was furthest from winning.

Site health

Slow pages, broken links, blocked crawls

The site suffered from slow load speeds, broken links and crawlability problems — enough friction that Google was spending its crawl budget on faults instead of products.

On-page

Meta tags and headings without a system

Meta tags, headings and internal linking lacked consistency and structure, so pages gave Google no clear signal about which flavour or category term each one was meant to own.

Authority

A backlink profile too thin to compete

Limited quality backlinks held domain authority down, which capped how far any single page could rank regardless of how well it was written or optimised.

Content

Nothing written for the buyer's actual search

There was a gap in targeted content for buyer intent and for valuable long-tail keywords — the specific flavour and comparison searches that convert far better than head terms.

Scope of work

The 6-phase build, in the order it had to happen

On an ecommerce catalogue, sequence decides the outcome. Content published before the technical faults were fixed would have been crawled slowly and indexed badly, and flavour pages built before the keyword map would have competed with each other for the same searches.
01 — Assessment

Keyword research & intent mapping

Identified competitive and niche keywords capable of driving relevant traffic, then gave every high-impact term one owning page so category, flavour and informational pages stopped competing with each other.

02 — Diagnosis

Technical SEO & site health

Improved site speed and the mobile experience, fixed errors, broken links and crawl issues, and rebuilt the site structure so indexing followed a deliberate hierarchy rather than whatever the platform generated.

03 — AAlignment

On-page optimisation across the money pages

Rewrote meta titles, descriptions and headings around the target keyword for each page, cleaned up content structure, and rebuilt internal linking so authority flowed toward the pages meant to rank.

04 — Mobilisation

Content built for buyer intent

Created high-quality, targeted content answering real customer questions and offering practical tips, mapped to search intent rather than to internal product naming, and kept optimising pages as data came in.

05 — Strengthening

Off-page SEO & authority building

Ran a backlink programme built on strategic outreach and placements, securing links from authoritative websites to lift domain authority, credibility and the ceiling on every page's ranking potential.

06 — Maintenance

Measurement, tracking & iteration

Reviewed Google Analytics and Search Console throughout the engagement, tracking users, sessions, clicks and impressions to push effort toward the terms producing revenue and cut the ones producing traffic alone.

Results — 12-month comparison

Every metric up, and organic traffic up sevenfold

SEMrush, Google Search Console and the client’s analytics tell the same story: more terms ranking, ranking far higher, and roughly seven times the organic traffic arriving as a result.

Seven times the organic traffic and 12 keywords at position #1

Twelve months in, Bulkhead Energy draws 1,401 monthly organic visits against 199 at the start, and holds 951 organic keywords against 304. Search Console clicks grew from 2.03k to 5.5k while impressions rose from 46.8k to 457.3k, so the brand is not just being clicked more — it is being shown far more often, on far more searches.
Analytics tells the audience side of the same story: 48k new users onboarded across the year, 61k sessions, and 5.1k returning users, up 118.8%. Underneath it, crawl errors fell by 95% and site speed improved by 60%, which is what made the traffic gains hold rather than spike and fade.

12 months, 12 #1 rankings, onecategory where search is the shelf

Energy drink SEO isn't won on generic head terms; it's won on the flavour and format searches a shopper runs in the minutes before they add to cart. Those searches are cheap to ignore and expensive to lose, which is exactly why owning them moved the numbers this far.

Flavour terms before head terms - Targeting the specific searches — citrus, pineapple, Pink Mist, watermelon — took twelve keywords to #1 while the category's generic terms stayed contested.

Technical health first - Crawl errors down 95% and site speed up 60% before content scaled, so every page published afterwards was crawled, indexed and served properly.

Authority built deliberately - Outreach and placements on authoritative sites raised the ceiling on what any individual page could rank for, turning on-page work into actual position gains.

Measured throughout - Analytics and Search Console reviewed across the engagement, tracking users, sessions, clicks and impressions so effort followed the terms producing revenue.
