From page three to page one: 200% organic growth one rankings for a Houston HVAC company

SEO Yodha partnered with Northwind Air Conditioning, Heating & Mechanical Services to lift the company out of page-three obscurity in one of the most competitive HVAC markets in the country — and put it in front of West and Northwest Houston homeowners at the exact moment their AC quits.

About The Northwind Air Conditioning, Heating & Mechanical

the greater Houston area since 1998. The team handles air conditioning and heating repair, maintenance, and full system replacement for homeowners across West and Northwest Houston, alongside a commercial mechanical division serving local businesses.
The company built its reputation on a promise most Houston homeowners have learned to be sceptical of: no upsells, no nonsense, straight answers about what a system actually needs. Beyond service calls, Northwind runs an online filter shop, an instant HVAC quote tool, a maintenance plan membership, and 24/7 emergency dispatch — a genuinely deep site, and one that was doing very little for the business in organic search.

Scope of work

The Challenges We Faced

Northwind had 27 years of local reputation and almost none of it was showing up in search. Six problems stood between the business and the homeowners already looking for it.
Competition

One of the toughest HVAC markets in the US

Houston's climate makes air conditioning a year-round necessity, which draws national franchises and private-equity-backed groups with budgets a local contractor cannot match. Every commercial-intent term was already crowded.

Visibility

Ranking, but invisible

The site ranked for roughly 700 keywords at an average position of 27.6 — page three. Those rankings generated 512 clicks a month against 9.3K impressions, because almost nothing sat where people actually click.

Seasonality

Demand spikes with no runway

Houston HVAC demand explodes with the first heat wave and again during hurricane season. Rankings take months to build, so the site needed to be positioned before each surge, not scrambling during it.

Geography

No local layer for the service area

Northwind serves specific West and Northwest Houston communities, but the site spoke only in citywide terms. There was nothing for Google to match against searches naming Katy, Cypress, Jersey Village, or Spring Branch.

Content

Homeowners search symptoms, not services

People type "AC blowing warm air" long before they type "AC repair Houston." The blog published irregularly and covered almost none of the symptom-stage questions that start the buying journey.

Structure

Deep site, weak signals

Service pages, an online shop, a quote tool, and a booking flow all existed in isolation — thin internal linking, incomplete schema, inconsistent local citations, and page-speed drag from a heavy page-builder theme.

Scope of work

Our Approach & Solutions

Each phase had to land before the one after it could work. Fixing crawlability before the content existed would have been wasted; publishing content before the keyword map was set would have cannibalised the service pages.
01 — Assessment

Keyword research & intent mapping

Built a three-tier keyword map — symptom ("AC not cooling"), service ("AC installation"), and location ("HVAC repair Cypress TX") — then assigned every term to exactly one page so service, city, and blog pages stopped competing with each other.

02 — Diagnosis

Technical SEO & site health

Cleared crawl and indexation errors, cut page weight and Core Web Vitals drag from the page-builder theme, fixed mobile usability, and deployed HVACBusiness, Service, FAQ, and Review schema across the site.

03 — AAlignment

On-page optimisation across every service page

Rewrote titles, meta descriptions, headings, and body copy on the AC, heating, commercial, duct cleaning, and indoor air quality pages to match how Houston homeowners actually phrase the problem.

04 — Mobilisation

Local SEO & service-area expansion

Built dedicated pages for the communities Northwind actually serves, optimised the Google Business Profile with services, photos, and Q&A, corrected NAP across directories, and pushed for consistent review velocity to compete in the Map Pack.

05 — Strengthening

Seasonal content engine & internal linking

Ran a publishing calendar tied to the Houston year — hurricane prep in May, humidity and repair content through summer, furnace content from October — and wired every article back to the service and city pages it supports.

06 — Maintenance

Authority building, tracking & iteration

Earned local citations, supplier and trade mentions, and relevant backlinks, while monitoring Search Console and GA4 monthly to double down on what moved and cut what didn't.

Every measure moved in the same direction

Third-party visibility estimates and Google’s own Search Console data tell the same story: more terms ranking, ranking higher, earning more of the clicks they were shown for.

Rank #1

Built for local servicebusinesses that live or die by the phone ringing

HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing — home services SEO is won in the gap between a homeowner noticing a problem and picking a contractor. That gap is measured in hours, and it is almost always resolved on the first page of Google.

Seasonal, not reactive. We build rankings ahead of demand peaks so the site is already positioned when the first heat wave hits.

Symptom-first content. We target how customers describe the problem, not how the industry names the service.

Local before national. Service-area pages, Map Pack optimisation, citations, and reviews — the levers a local contractor can actually win with.

Measured monthly. Search Console and GA4 reviewed every month, with the strategy adjusted to what's moving.
